01a. Ze HaYom 5736, Class One. This first class on this Rosh Hashana Ma’amar, doesn’t speak to the basic topic(s) of the Ma’amar, but to a Torah of the Mezritcher Maggid and the Rebbe’s exploration of it. ישראל עלו במחשבה and בשביל ישראל שנקראו ראשית are explained by the Maggid to be about Tzadikim. This runs (arguably) contrary to the תנא דבי’ אליה’ו (so often sighted in Chassidus) that Yidden are above and before Torah. The Rebbe refers to these two ideas as ‘One Inyan’ (if the purpose is only for Tzadikim) and ‘Two Inyonim’ (if the purpose is Yidden above Torah and Mitzvos). He concludes (near the end of the Ma’amar) that this is Tzadik and Ba’al Teshuva.
