06-06, 07 the four expressions of Geulah (Yeshiva Achei temimim 5782/ 2021) The four terms Hashem used to describe the stages of the Jewish people’s exodus. The question is why draw it out, why four stages and what do they mean? The class includes a Ramban, Seforna, a commentary on Midrash (בלק”ט), a Zohar and a Ma’amar (which has many versions from various Rebbes (we -obviously- chose a version from OUR Rebbe) Ma’amar Lachain Emor 5718. Ironically the simplest Pshat is the Zohar’s (!!!) the order isn’t chronological, but prioritized: first what Yidden want most (to leave Vihotzasi) and last what Yidden need most (but they cannot appreciate it yet) so it is left for last Vilakachti (I’ll make you mine) and the two in between discuss steps of the exodus prior to actually leaving Egypt. The Ramban and Siforno explain them to be chronologically in order in slightly different ways. Chassidus connects it to four levels of Teshuvah (corresponding to the four letters of God’s name.) First stopping to sin (Vihotzaisi,) second beginning to do good (Vihitzalti,) third to approach intimacy with God (Viga’alti, Bina,) and lastly to intimate with God (Vilakachti, like Yira Ila’a).
