07. Rebbi Yishmael Omer Yeshiva Achei Temimim (5783 (2022)), Class Seven.
This class really belongs before the last class (or perhaps before the lats two classes).
Introduction to what follows in the next few classes (and a little of what came before):
Meod and Adam: two models of Godliness.
Meod: plain and infinite and transcendent.
Adam: godliness in form and detail (balance) it’s parts are finite and complex, but it’s order adds up to infinity. This is Atzilus.
We explained Atzilus at length using the Rabeinu Bechaye’s “Koach Hahamara as our illustration.
The Tola’as Yaakov explains this passage of Reb Yishmael in several steps. The second is (from Midda 3- 7) Adam HaElyon, Atzilus. It’s emergence from what is above it, what it itself means and how it then comes down into the lower (created, imperfect realms).
This is called כלל and פרט.
כלל is higher than Atzilus vs. Atzilus, and Atzilus vs. what is beneath it.
פרט is Atzilus vs. higher than Atzilus, and the lower ideas in Atzilus vs, what is above it.
ר’ ישמעאל and רבי עקיבא Tzadik (Kohen Gadol) and Ba’al Teshuva (the son of converts) and their different version of Torah’s rules: The Tzadik’s version is inclusive and holy (and narrow) כלל ופרט; the Ba’al teshuva’s version in broad and includes what is not perfect ריבוי ומיעוט; we begin our day with Reb Yishmael’s version.
