(Part One) This is a Ma’amar Basi Ligani from 15 Shvat 5739 (it is the third in the “Hemshech” Basi Ligani from 5739) all three Ma’amarim explain the 9th chapter of Basi Ligani 5710. The class explains the two ideas attached to the Possuk ועשית קרשים למשכן עצי שטים עומדים explaining עומדים in two ways: A) It is read עמודים a beam that raises up and brings down so that Ein Sof and world join. This is connected to the idea of Neshamos Yisrael being both חלק אלוק ממעל ממש (totally spiritual) and ממש (tangible). The Rebbe connects this to אתה הא-ל עושה פלא joining עשי’ה and פלא. B) It is the idea of עומדים from the highest to the lowest level. It is also the idea of permanence and never changing, לא שניתי. One stands when there is an adversary, and then he adds the idea that the revelation of G-dliness can only be on the lowest level (this world) because of the struggle happening here, and because here there is the (advantage of the) ביטול of אין ערוך לך.
Part one
(Part Two) This class is only the very beginning and very end of the maamar. It addresses the questions of: why here and not everywhere? Why only below and “also” below. The answer (brought here) is because here there is adversity and this adversity reveals one’s depth of character. It connects the idea that Only in the physical world is Atzmus revealed to the event and story of Mattan Torah 1) the miracles described are Davka physical 2) the mitzvos given are simple and physical.
