There are two broad categories of what is מצרים, but they’re in two more basic categories: Category One: מצרים means narrowness and limitation. 1) The physical and spiritual limitations we must overcome. 2) The idea of מיצר מי the G-dliness that is ever-present in Creation isn’t readily apparent without a התבוננות as it says שאו מרום עניכם וראו מי ברא אלה. And 3) The idea of אין of כתר but specifically חיצוניות הכתר or אריך אנפין that has a remote connection to creation and as such the concealment of it’s light from the world is a real concealment. Category Two: The אין of פנימיות הכתר which is compared to אין לה ולד and ציון… אין דורש לה (and more) where [the Midrash says] no actually means yes, but not yet (revealed) because it’s from the highest level ששם חביון עוז העצמות. This is an אין that is not (at all) hiding or hidden; it is simply unseen. And even this מצרים must be overcome.
