This Ma’amar addresses the lesson (and timeless relevance) of the entire discussion on the three sub-tribes of לוי and their meaning for us now. In this Ma’amar all three are explained as steps in learning Torah which is the source of all: Jewish life as well as life as a whole. The first level is מררי which means bitterness. This connotes a Bittul. Thus subservience to Hashem allows the Torah we learn to be true. By מררי it doesn’t mention נשיאות ראש because his entire idea is Bittul. The second is גרשון this is the love for Torah and the joy in learning it. It includes both levels of אהבת עולם and אהבה רבה. By Gershon it does say נשא את ראש, but it says it along with a “גם הם” because it isn’t like קהת (which follows). The third is קהת, which is the oneness between a Yid and the Torah and its Giver. The דביקות is to the extent that תענוג העבד הוא תענוג האדון עצמו and תורה לשמה- לשם התורה. Here it obviously says נשא את ראש.
