Maamar HaShayim-Kisi-5738 “Shamayim” (Heaven) is Hashem’s chair and the “Aretz” (Earth) is Hashem’s footstool. What does this mean? Heaven is like a chair which brings Him down to the worlds. Earth is like a footstool that raises the world up to Him. Spiritually this is Torah (heaven) and Yidden (earth). However each of the two are the (collective) purpose of the entire creation, and as such in each (Torah and Yidden) there is both heaven and earth. The Ma’amar gives us a number of examples for each “Heaven” and each “Earth”. Note on the “Naiyis” (New idea) in this ma’amar. There is a well-known “mashal” (allegory) describing the spiritual process that occurs in the month of Elul. The King goes from the city to the field. People in the country go to the field and are greeted by the King with pleasant countenance. So in regard to the topic of this ma’amar, “What is Melech B’Sade?” Is it “Shamayim” or “Aretz”?
