In Torah Itself there’s Ohr Yashar (from top down) and Ohr Chozer (from the bottom up). Ohr Yashar is when one is tapping into Torah’s light. This includes both ta’anug (delight) light and intellectual light. This is true on two levels 1) Torah as a scholarship vs. Torah for Halacha’s sake. 2) In fixing Halacha itself there are these two levels: 1. Halacha determined by the intellectual and delight (Ta’anug) light of Torah. 2. Halacha determined through the bittul and fear. Only on this last level is Torah reaching “Helem HaAtzmi”- the essence of G-Dliness. This class talks about the first of these ideas- how in learning Torah and fixing Halacha (where one toils greatly) it is (only) accessing light from above (Ohr Yashar) and not from below. We address the special relationship between Sechel and Ta’anug using Hemshech Ayin Beis (5672) ch. 203 which we read (in part inside.)
