Monday 19 Iyar 5773/ April 29 2013.

Modim, the eighteenth Bracha of Shmone Esrei. Class One. Modim (the 18th Bracha of Shmone Esrei). The essence of this Bracha is submission, [as opposed to Tefilla (Prayer) and Avoda (worship, Korbanos)]. It is the Golus prayer, pure submission. The Seder HaYom reveals this essence.

Monday 26 Iyar 5773/ May 6 2013. Class Two. This class is based on the Siddur MaHaRiD. It has a lengthy introduction about the life we have, that we feel and value, which we can celebrate. And the infinity of life beyond that we don’t know and can only submit to its presence. Modim is about submission but also thanking for the little we know that we have that we value.

Monday 4 Sivan 5773/May 13 2013. Modim, the eighteenth Bracha of Shmone Esrei. Class Three. This class introduces and overviews the Arizal’s kavanos for this Bracha, and the three aspects (masculine, feminine and union) and speculates as to what it means. We also explored two ideas regarding the bowing by Modim (beginning and end).
