04. Hodu (Machon Chana) Classes 19-26 (16 Shiurim)(various Pesukim) 32- 51 (inside) והוא רחום

הודו להוי’ קראו בשמו Class Nineteen, Class One.
Introduction to (the new class, for new school year on) Siddur and Overview of Hodu
This class begins with an overview of the daily journey through davening. Previous classes covered from Modeh Ani through the first two thirds of Hodu.
The class overviews the “ladder prayer”: why the sections of the siddur are located where they are and what they mean.
Overview. The Kabbalistic approach to prayer (as explained initially by the Arizal and later in the Chassidic maamarim (discourses)) is like climbing a ladder up and down. The morning prayer starts the journey up to the summit and coming down means bringing the highest point of prayer back down into your life. The prayer journey moves from the first to fourth worlds and back. We addressed each section of davening (in short):
1. Asiyah – serve Hashem with submission and acceptance (up to Baruch Sh’amar including Psukei d’Zimra)
2. Yetzirah – engage with Hashem based on individual nature or personality (until the end of Yishtabach)
3. Beriyah – create original relationships with Hashem using intelligence which may be outside of or against inherent nature (up to Shemonai Esrai)
4. Atzilus – open yourself up to Divine inspiration – an expression of God independent of self (Amidah)
5. Ein Sof – Infinity beyond Atzilus.
*************************************************************************************************
After the initial introduction we moved on to the topic at hand: Hodu and it’s three component parts.
HODU – Three Parts
1. Thanks via submission based on the relationship Jewish people have with God  (Morning)
2. Thanks based on submission of the Creation and all of Humanity (Afternoon)
3. Submission to Hashem by somebody who has ruined his/her relationship with Hashem.  Spoken from Galus when there is no Beis HaMikdash. The Jewish  begging for Existence to continue despite a lack of merit.  Collection of psukim from all over the Tanach.
We begin the year with part three.

Class 2 – This class starts the analysis in depth of section three of Hodu, about Hashem wanting and needing even “bad” people and “bad” Jews; after all He created us the way we are.

This week we explored three Pesukim (32-34).
The introduction revolved around the idea of Hashem’s relationship with us in Galus, that causes us to say Hoda’a, to acknowledge our dependence and submission to Him.
The first word of the first Possuk “V’hu”; and Hu means Hashem as He is hidden, denoting Galus. However “Hu” is יכפר עון ולא ישחית Hashem wipes away sin He is not a destructive God.
There are three levels in this:
1) והוא רחום יכפר עון even without Teshuva He atones, 2) However with Teshuva He is והרבה להשיב אפו and 3) no matter what He is ולא יעיר כל חמתו, all His wrath is never shown, as he created us and wants us, no matter how we are.

The next two Pesukim אתה ה’ לא תכלה… and זכר רחמיך… speak more to the basic Truth that He is good (because if He didn’t want us He wouldn’t have made us and He has a pretty good idea how we are going to turn out).
“Ata” He created us and He wants the physical creation to exist and will always guard us.

These two classes are on four Pesukim.
This class explores the first of these four Pesukim תנו עוז לאלוקים… explaining it with the idea of צחוק עשה לי אלוקים laughter comes from overcoming challenge (בירורים).
This is consistent with the idea that the last third of הודו is Galus-like condition.

The reason for this Galus phenomena and it’s upside and downside is נורא אלוקים ממקדשיך etc.
Galus is not as inspired as the times of the Beis Hamikdash.
א-ל נקמות explains the בירור of the finer and coarser קליפה.

This class explores four more Pesukim (39-42)
1) להשם הישועה…
2) ה’ צבאות עמנו…
3) ה’ צבאות אשרי אדם…
4) ה’ הושיעה…
It (can be seen as) a special Session on spiritual mechanism underlying the baal teshuva process related to Hodu
Two key words ישעה (the root is שע”ה) and צבאות.
The first is higher than ordinary and the second is lower (נצח לבר מגופא) and the idea is presented that in Galus thigs are more hidden but come from a higher source.

These two classes:
1) Reviewed everything we learned all year since והוא רחום.
2) We read the rest of הודו with the commentary of the ספר הברית who is the only ראשון whose commentary seems to follow the pattern of these Pesukim as we recite them each day although they are collected from all over תנ”ך.

These last Pesukim (from הושיעה until the end) are Moshiach oriented.
The basic point is that we, Jewish People, never stop(ped) waiting for Moshiach, and when he comes the reward will include the recognition for out never despairing or giving up for the Geula.
This will recognized by everyone.

This class deals with Pesukim 43-45.
The idea of חיכוי was explained (נפשני חכתה) based on the idea in Zohar יעשה למחכה לו למאן דדייק במילין דחוכמתא
The idea of overcoming challenge, reveals the deepest levels of the Neshamah.

הודו להוי’ קראו בשמו Class Twenty Five, Class One.
This class deals with Pesukim 46-48.
This class has a lengthy introduction, about words and their usage and the level they represent, whose source from the Zohar.
The three levels are 1) Kesser, 2) Atzilus (Z”A), 3) Malchus.
For example: 1) מצותי and 2) מצות הוי’ה and 3) מצות המלך
The same is with גדלותו, and גדול הוי’ה and גדולה.
This sets up the meaning of the word חסדך (higher than חסד הוי’ה) which is found in each of these three Pesukim.
This חסד above השתלשלות comes in times of Galus.
