Nitzovim 29: 18-19; ViHisbarech Bilvavo… he thinks he can get away with it.
Moshe repeats words of rebuke and direction (Hochacha) again and again.
On this occasion he gets into the sinners (of the future’s) head: I’ll get away with it because…
1) RaSaG: He figures that Hashem won’t punish (because he doesn’t really believes that He really cares about) him. So Hashem let’s him no
2) RaShI: רוה- inadvertent; צמאה- means with intent to sin.
3) RaShbaM: רוה means sinning through abundance, these are sins of spite; צמאה means sins of lust, that albeit they’re done with intent.
4) Even Ezra: He calculates to be among Tzadikim where he’s the lone sinner, and he’ll be judged together with them and turn out righteous; so the Rebbe explains that no Jew is judged as part of a group, we’re all judged individually.
5) RaMbaN: I won’t join into the covenant in the first place.
6) Rikanti: רוה and צמאה are supernal and manifest judgement. Joining the tow forces of judgement would destroy everything; making it impossible for Hashem to exact punishment.
7) Chassidus (Kuntres Uma’ayan): רוה is Klipa, צמאה is Kedusha. Joining the two allows the yid to draw from Klipa which sustains with no conditions. Hashem retorts לא יאבה הוי’ סלוח לו… this trick cannot work by a Yid, where everything is with a Cheshbon.
