01b. Shma Yisrael 5720, Class Two. Here the Rebbe questions the ability to know רוממות העצמי altogether. He argues that the Essence cannot be known at all (no matter what). He resolves this issue by speaking of physical Mitzvos (that allow us to ‘hold’ Atzmus אבל נתפס איהו ברעותא דליבא) and explains that this is connected to Birur. He illustrates it from various levels of learning, from teachers, friends students, and students who really challenge the teacher and what they achieve. He explain Birurim in a similar light, making Klipa (which is not at all a keli) into a Keli for Elokus.
