Ani Lidodi 5712, Class Ten, Perek Two (4) Yidden were unprepared for Torah because… A. In Egypt they sunk into 49 gates of spiritual; impurity; and it didn’t have to be that way. they could have remained pure to their faith and practice (7 Mitzvos of Noach). Had they done that Mattan Torah would have left them all (alive and) prophets. B. Running from Egypt was actually escaping form themselves, in the full awareness that they are taking Egypt with them!!! C. 50 or 51 days is hardly adequate preparation for Mattan Torah. For all these reasons (and more) Torah had to be a gift.
