We used say Elokai Neshama in bed, but it was decided that we are not pure and holy enough for that so it was supplanted by Mode Ani.
The Nigla is that it has no holy name of God, the Chassidus is that no Tumah can touch it, it is Yechida.
Getting up in the morning has a moment where we absolutely close to God, then the next moment we say Mode Ani, which expresses the simplicity of that closeness.
