10a. Bichof Hei BiKislev 5716, Class One. This class discusses the correction the passion (Middos) requires quieting the passion through the mind, and especially Chochma. The Rebbe explains that human emotions are all about self and therefore very vulnerable to falling, while the quiescence and curiosity and hunger of the mind is far more selfless and is therefore able to quiet the heart. This is (in turn) compared to the lighting the candles of the Menorah, brings Chochma (olive oil is Chochma) to quiet the emotions. The Rebbe elaborates on this by comparing it to the idea of Netilas Yadayim: bringing water (which is Chochma like in it’s formlessness) on the emotions (the hands) to refine and quiet them.
