Bo 12-06. Bain HaArbayim. What does ‘between the Erevs (evenings)’ mean? 1) Even Ezra- when the sun sets, which is before there’s total darkness; but the Chachomim said from after noon. 2) Ralbag- Erev means mix (of light and darkness) and there are two of those: dawn and dusk and the Pesach is Shechted at the midpoint between those two. 3) Ramban- Erev has three translations A. from after mid-day; B. Sunset; C. Night. Bein HaArbayim menas the time that INCLUDES ALL erevs. 4) Rashi- two Erevs (Rashi translate that Erev means DARKNESS) there’s the darkness of night (absolute) and day (relative) and it is shechted between those two. Spiritually this means UNTIL it’s absolutely dark you can be redeemed. 5) Zohar- the two Erevs are A. of nature, after Chatzos, Gevurah; B. of Yidden, the deep deep darkness of Galus. This is similar to Rashi, but different, because according to this Zohar, the deepest darkness is there TO BE REDEEMED.
