Question: Did HaShem create a fixed amount of space and physical things occupy it (1)makif – sovev?) or Do physical things make their own space (2) pnimi, mamale?) 1) Emek HaMelech, Pardes, Rikanti and the Rambam hold that Hashem is Makom is sovev, one big makif that carries and supports all creation. 2) The Ikarim, the Alter Rebbe and the Arizal hold that Makom is Memale and things make their own space.
