Part 1: General introduction to maamarim. The Alter Rebbe had a mandate from the Maggid to internalize chassidus b’pnimius. Chassidus Chabad is the Alter Rebbe’s. He wanted his chassidus transcribed word for word with no modifications. The Mittler Rebbe opened the Alter Rebbe’s words and wrote volumes. The Tzemach Tzedek wrote notes and references. The Rebbe Maharash used his father’s words and added notes. The Rebbe Rashab took all the information from the previous Rebbeim and rewrote chassidus into organized sugyas. The Frierdiker Rebbe kept his fathers words, but added notes. The Alter Rebbe said the maamarim based on a posuk. The later Rebbeim almost always kept the same posuk. It is possible to trace a maamar through several Rebbeim and still see the Alter Rebbe’s words. This is a hemshech that isn’t finished, but the answers to the questions can be found in another maamar from 5658. MP3
