The Rebbe's father. Born 18 Nissan 5638/1878 passed away 20 Menachem Av 5704/1944. A great Gaon and Mikubal. He held the Rabbanus (Position of Rabbi) in Yekatrinislav (Dnepropetrovsk Ukraine) for thirty years. He was arrested right before Pesach 5699/1939 and was exiled for five years for the crime of upholding Yiddishkeit in Soviet Russia. In the later years the Rebbe would write of his father Kvod Kidushas... and on occasion ZaTz"aL.

The Rebbe's father כ"ק הרה"ג הרה"ח ר' לוי יצחק זצ"ל passed away on this day in Asian Russia after enduring five years of exile in a most remote part of Russia. His passing at the age of 66 was very premature and was brought on by his suffering at the hands of the Soviets for his "counter-revolutionary" efforts in preserving Yiddishkeit in Soviet Russia.
