Likutei Sichos – Vol 16 p 408 ff. The only people who actually served the Egel (golden calf) and survived were some members of the Erev Rav, they did Teshuva. Two ideas in teshuva are explored: destroyin evil and uplifting it; the former is for Tazdikim and the latter is for Ba’alei Teshuva. As such some worshipers of the golden calf (those doing Teshuva in the latter way survived). This is the meaning of לך עלה מזה אתה והעם
