Likutei Sichos – Vol 17 p 297 ff In Parshas Behar we read of the Yid who has sold himself into slavery that needs redeeming. The Torah enumrates those obligated to redeem him in order of closeness, but two ‘relatives’ are omitted: 1) Himself, why doesn’t the Torah express that first and foremost he must redeem himself? 2) His father is also omitted, why isn;t this closest of relations included in this list? The answer: how did he get into this mess in the first place…
