Toldos 25:21 Vaye’etar, one of ten (twelve (?)) expressions of Tefilla. Based on the Sifrei in the beginning of Parshas Vaeschanan. All ten (twelve (?)) expressions are explored somewhat. 1) זעקה (must include צעקה) which means to cry out 2) שועה also means to cry; but also means to turn וישע הוי’ אל הבל we turn from where we are to Him and cause Him to urn back. 3) נאקה also means to cry, perhaps sigh, but it’s also the name a female donkey, the power of prayer that comes when the animal soul cries along with us. 4) צרה this doesn’t describe the prayer but the circumstances leading to the prayer מן המיצר קראתי י-ה and it’s reward צהר תעשה לתיבה it opens into a great light. 5) רינה singing is melodious an beautiful, but it comes from the deepest depth and has the power of prayer; also רננא ברמשא connotes music that has melancholy. 6) פגיעה prayer by chance meeting that is so fierce as to be described like banging into Him and actually leaving a lasting mark פגע. 7) ניפול falling to the ground, like השתטחות, total submission as a way having prayers answered. 8) פילול (is connected to the word תפילה by the Sifrei, but we explained it) from the word פלילים which means judgement, coming to Hashem with a calculator; and the word פלא creating wonders through such prayer, this must be done by the right person in the right way. 9) עתירה (the one in our Parshas which set all this off) to turn things over (Rashi) and make a change in the environment around he who prays. 10) עמידה total Bittul and quiescence; stories of standing still in prayer. 11) חילול means to begin to ask; alternatively it turns prayer into a חול ordinary activity, if it is done all the time; and the one praying is always “there”. 12) ואתחנן means grace and charisma as a basis for having the prayer answered, but Rashi says מתנת חינם nothing has greater grace than asking without showing off.
