Yisro 18-01, Yisro’s seven names According to the Midrashim (many are included in the PDF included here) Yisro had either 5, 6, 7 or 8 names. The meaning of these numbers. 5 and 6 represent Yechida and higher. 7 is order and 8 is its transcendence. The meaning of each of the seven (eight) names and what they add up to. יתר– Yisro added to the Torah; the section of ‘Dinim’ (court system which is a Mitzvah -even- on Goyim). יתרו– Yisro had incredible character. The Gairus of Yisro is hinted here (Yisro= 616) : 613 Mitzvos + 3 Torah Neviim and Kesuvim. חובב– God loved him; He loved Torah like no other convert. רעואל– Yisro was a friend to God. חבר– Yisro was attached to God. פוטיאל or פוטי– He was altogether rid if his association with Avoda Zara. קני– Yisro was a zealot for God when needed. Additionally, he ‘acquired’ the Torah, Olom Haba, A good name. בן– Yisro was (“like”) Hashem’s son
